Update Your Kitchen - Budget, Style and more.
Updated: Jan 11

If you're thinking about renovating your kitchen, congratulations! You're in for a wild ride filled with excitement, frustration, and possibly a few tantrums. But don't worry, it will all be worth it in the end when you have a beautiful new space to cook, eat, and Instagram. Here's what you need to know:
1. Budget:
First things first, figure out how much moolah you're willing to drop on this renovation. Remember, kitchens aren't cheap. But hey, at least you won't have to eat ramen noodles for a year (unless that's your thing). In all seriousness, though, a kitchen renovation can cost anywhere from $20,000 - $100,000 with a wide range of selections of materials and finishes. There are some helpful calculators on the internet to get a rough idea of an amount that might work for your project.
2. Layout:
Time to get creative! Think about how you want your kitchen to flow and function. Do you want an island for all your *ahem* cooking activities? Or maybe you just want to be able to open the fridge and pantry door without breaking your wrist. The choice is yours! After all, you'll be the one staring at it every day (with adoration for all the great ideas you came up with).
3. Materials:
Choose materials that match your personal style (and wallet). Just don't get too fancy, or you'll end up living in a home that looks like it belongs on MTV Cribs. But hey, maybe you do want a T.V. hidden in your kitchen island? We definitely won't judge you.
4. Functionality:
What do you want out of your kitchen renovation? More counter space for all your #chefgoals? Or maybe you just want a place to hide from your family when they get on your nerves. Either way, make sure your priorities are incorporated into the design.
5. Timing:
Renovating a kitchen can be a bit of a hassle, so plan accordingly. You could be without a kitchen for up to a few months, depending on the project size. Check out our post on how long your kitchen renovation could take to get a better idea of the timeline of your project. And if all else fails, just order some takeout and wine and drink your sorrows away. (We've tried it, and it works great!)
In conclusion, renovating your kitchen is a thrilling (and sometimes stressful) adventure. Just remember to stay calm, have a sense of humor, and hire a contractor you can trust (We know a guy). And hey, if worst comes to worst, at least you have a new space to store your hoard of snack foods.
